Large critters will no longer be afraid of the little ones!

Critters, bugs; whatever cute name we give them, we’re sometimes very scared of them! But if we stop for a minute, we’ll discover a fascinating world! Let’s pique your curiosity of insects with three exciting workshops, which includes hunting for live specimens and making an insectarium that they get to take home! Caution: may increase vocations in entomology…

On the menu:

1) Insects (60 min)

Ask the kids to bring an empty shoebox for the next step.

In case of rain, steps 2 and 3 will be reversed.

 2) Insect hunting (60 min):

We’ll set out in search of adventure to capture live specimens! We will supply the nets and pods for capturing the insects.

3) Insectarium (60 min):

Youths build their own insectarium using a cardboard shoebox to place the captured insects and freeze them in the next step.

Objectives at the elementary level:

• Describe and associate the parts of the anatomy of the insect (head, thorax and abdomen).
• Describe the different changes in the form of insects during their development.
• Describe the particular characteristics of different insects (way of life, anatomical particularities and habitats).
• Understand how certain insects communicate with their own species.
• Make an insectarium in the classroom.
• Discover the different insect habitats in nature.
