Robotic LEGO MINDSTORMS® EV3 (animation only)
Technology…and profaqua at your service!
Your institution has Lego® MINDSTORMS EV3® robots, but you’re not comfortable about introducing your youths to robotics? We have the perfect project for you. In this advanced version of Lego® MINDSTORMS, we offer an exciting range of activities, such as sumo wrestling, recycling chain, moving through a maze and elephant dance…See how your young programmers can live up to the challenge!
On the menu:
- From 3 workshops of 90 minutes in school
- 60-minute workshops possibly as an extracurricular activity
Objectives at the elementary level:
- Understand the mechanism of the parts of a robot (brick, motors, sensors and structure).
- Understand a programming sequence using the Mindstorms EV3®
- Recognize the rotation and translation movements in the actions of robots.
- Identify mechanical parts and their effects (gears, cams and lever).
- Explain the use of fractions in robotics (gear ratio and rotation of wheels)
- Recognize and identify the execution challenges (frictional force, direction and speed).
- Recognize the influence and impact of robots on today’s society.
Objectives at the secondary level:
- Describe the functions of the components of a transmission system for movement (e.g. sprockets of bikes and chain).
- Describe speed variation or the reversibility of a transmission system for movement (e.g. gear ratio (1: 3 or 3: 1) and the effects on assembly.
- Identify transmission systems for movement in a robot (friction wheels, pulleys and belt, gear, sprockets and chain, wheel and worm screw).
- Explain the choice of a transmission mechanism for movement in a technical object (e.g. use of a gear instead of friction wheels for more motor torque and to prevent sliding).
- Describe the advantages and disadvantages related to adhesion and friction between parts and on the ground.
Our needs
- Access to electrical outlets is required.
- Access to a TBI / TNI is required in the room where the workshops will take place.
- Clear space is needed for the demonstrations at the end of the class.
- Six teams must be created before the science animator arrives.
Important information
- This workshop is offered only to schools that have LEGO MINDSTORMS® EV3 building kits.
- Basic robots must be assembled before the science animator arrives.
- The teacher is responsible for ensuring that laptops and robot bricks are charged and working properly before the science animator arrives.
- Profaqua is in charge of supplying the activity rugs necessary for carrying out the activity.
